Mr. Dick Willis

Bio:
This is Mr. Willis' 12th year of teaching and his third at Northwest R1 High School.
Mr. Willis spent five years teaching at South County Opportunity for
the Purpose of Education (SCOPE) which is an alternative
education facility serving a consortium of south St. Louis county schools. His next teaching opportunity came at Bayless High School where he taught for five years. Mr. Willis taught Conceptual Physics and Conceptual Physics Honors, Biology, Zoology, Ecology, and Environmental Science.
Mr. Willis holds a Bachelor of Science degree in
Political Science from Kansas
State University and is certified to teach Social Studies, Civics, Geography,
World History, American History, Psychology and Sociology as well as
Physical Science, Biology and General Science. Personal interests include
animals of all kinds but especially reptiles and amphibians (herps). Recently, he has been maintaining a salt water reef tank housing a variety of soft corals. Mr.
Willis spends a great deal of his time refining his talents with
technology in order to enhance his teaching abilities and delivery methods
to all types of students. In the summer of 2005 Mr. Willis traveled to Rutgers
University in New Jersey to take a class in Bioinformatics and
has been able to present the lessons learned to students
in the biology honors class.
In the summer of 2006 and traveled to Denver, Colorado
to continue the program. Mr. Willis spent the summer of 2007 and 2008 in the north woods of Wisconsin working at Camp Nebagamon for Boys as Village Director. Most recently, the summer of 2010, Mr. Willis spent 10 days at the Planting Sciences Institute at Texas A & M University in College Station, TX, then traveled to Madison, WI for 7 days to continue investigating ways to present inquiry based lessons using Fast Plants. He also attended a workshop called "Tools for Maximum Engagement" presented by Eric Jensen with the focus of this course being effective classroom presentation. |
Mr. Willis has been married for 34 years to Dahna Willis.
Mrs. Willis is a lifelong advocate for children and families.
Dahna is also the entrepreneurial founder and Principal of DRW2 Group,
a leading edge firm offering transformative life coaching and organizational
development products and services. Dahna is presently employed as an adjunct professor for Central Methodist University.
Together, Dick and Dahna have raised two extraordinary children,
both Bayless High School Alumni. Allison graduated
in 1996, completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at Washington
University in African American Studies and earned her Juris Doctor
(Magna Cum Laude) from California
Western School of Law. Allison served as Editor for the California
Western Law Review and competed nationally on the Mock Trial Team.
She is currently employed by the Public Defender's office in Tampa, Florida. Allison is married to David Singer who is senior counsel for development for the firm Holland & Knight LLP in their offices located in Tampa, Florida.
Trey, who graduated from Bayless High School
in 1999, completed his Bachelor of Science in International Studies
and Spanish at the University of
Missouri in 2004. Trey spent his
final semester studying at the University
of Alicante (Spain). He is
currently employed at Savvis Communications here
in St. Louis as the Director of Product Development. Trey is the only Bayless student
to ever play NCAA Division 1 football. After he walked on to the Missouri
Tiger football team as a sophomore, he spent four years on the scout team
and in November of 2003 he made his mark in the record books by tackling
an Iowa State receiver who was on his way to a certain touchdown. Trey is married to Jeni Schellert Willis who is a teacher and reading specialist at Assumption School in O'Fallon, Missouri. Trey and his wife Jeni are the proud parents of a beautiful daughter, Danica Deen, born March 17th, 2010.
